Baiting Deer with Acorns

June 25th, 2010

In August and September you will want to order acorns from www.Acorno.com for deer baiting. Keep your acorns in a cool dry place. You will want to start ‘baiting’ the deer in your hunting area. In the fall, deer will be searching for food before winter and feeding heavily. Focus on a particular feeding spot close to your hunting spot. Get the deer accustomed to coming to this spot to feed. You can purchase a trail cam unit for around $300 to make sure the deer are coming to your feeding spot to eat the acorns. Acorns are the best bait to use for deer. Deer love acorns. They search for them in the fall and they will find your acorns. A trail cam will help you make sure the deer are eating your acorns, not the squirrels. Start with 10 pounds of acorns and then increase the amount of acorns depending on how often the deer visit and how much they eat. Hunters usually order 1,000 lbs of acorns from us and this lasts the season to catch a nice buck or 2. Deer prefer White Oak Acorns and Black Oak Acorns, but will eat Red Oak Acorns if nothing else is available.

Fall Acorn Magnets Craft Project

June 25th, 2010

Fall Acorn Magnets Craft Project

After leaf crunching and turkey making, there’s still a few projects we’re making for Fall. These Acorn Magnets are perfect for displaying the Fall craft projects the kids have made at school.

§                    acorns

§                    magnets – they now sell these strong neodymium magnets at Walmart or other craft stores, or you can get them online. You can use the regular black magnets too.

§                    hot glue gun – for the adult to use

Collect your acorns. Hot glue them (an adult) to a magnet. Let dry and cool. Attach to the fridge! (If the tops fall off, or if a top doesn’t come with a bottom, just hot glue it back together.)

We also couldn’t resist drawing faces on these acorns to make our little family. This Fall Acorn Craft will soon be turned into magnets themselves.

Acorn Wreath Craft Project

June 25th, 2010

Acorn Wreath Craft Project

What you’ll need:

  • Acorns
  • Wicker wreath
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • Newspaper
  • Flowers or other decoration

How to make it:

1.                       First, spread the newspaper on a flat surface.

2.                       Lay your wreath down flat.

3.                       Heat your glue gun.

4.                       Next, starting in the middle of the wreath, begin gluing the bottom of the acorn. Place the glued part of the acorn in the middle of the wreath and stand the acorn straight up.

5.                       Make one row in a straight line going all the way around the wreath.

6.                       Repeat the process from top to bottom with the wreath still laying flat.

7.                       Then decorate with flowers, bows, or even holiday ornaments. Be sure not to leave any open spaces except in the back. The back of the wreath shouldn’t have any acorns on it so when you lay it down it is flat.

Tips:

  • A wreath hanger is recommended because it is very heavy.

Acorn Family Craft Project

Acorn Family Craft Project

Materials:

  • Acorns or wooden acorns from craft store
  • Acrylic paints
  • Paint brush
  • Pencil
  • Option: 6 inches heavyweight thread and white glue

Directions:

If you are using wooden acorns, paint the bottom half brown. Paint the tops of acorns another color, maybe each family member’s favorite color. When bottom half is dried, paint on a simple face. To make very thin tiny lines, try using a very sharp pencil instead of a paintbrush. Just dip pencil tip into paint and lightly draw on acorn. When all the paint is dried, you can display your acorn family in a candy dish. If you wish to use your acorns as a hanging ornament, put a small drop of glue on top part of acorn. Knot the ends of thread together and press knot into the glue drop on acorn. Let dry.
